Lauren + Griffin | Boca Grande Island

There is something about Boca Grande Island that instantly draws you in. I never get tired of my engagement sessions here. With winding sandy paths… those giant banyan trees that look so good in photos… and quiet stretches of beach, it is the kind of place where you can slow down and simply enjoy being together.

And when you’re in the middle of the hustle and bustle of wedding planning, sometimes a tropical escape for an afternoon can be exactly what you need.

Lauren and Griffin’s session felt exactly like that. Instead of anything overly posed or formal, the evening unfolded more like a playful date by the water. We wandered through the tree-lined paths of Gasparilla Island State Park, paused for a few photos along the way, and then made our way down to the shoreline just as the light turned soft and golden.

These two picked the most perfect outfits for their location too!

Their outfits were neutral without being boring, and I really loved the way the photographed cohesively with the island backdrops.

Lauren started in a beautiful white midi dress with delicate texture. And texture = SO GOOD for photos! It moved effortlessly as they walked together beneath the trees. Griffin paired a light blue button-down with tan trousers and brown leather shoes, which gave the session a polished but still laid-back look.

Later, they changed into something a bit more casual for the last hour of sunlight on the beach. Griffin wore a soft olive green tee with light denim, while Lauren paired a cozy cream knit sweater with light-wash jeans. Barefoot in the sand, they looked completely at home along the shoreline. It felt like a playful magazine shoot, and as a Florida wedding photographer, I’m here for it.

Why Boca Grande Island is Perfect for Engagement Photos?

One of the best things about photographing couples here is the variety of backdrops within a short distance. You can move from shaded tropical trees to open beaches in just minutes, which keeps the session fresh and adds variety to your gallery!

Couples love Boca Grande Island because it offers:

  • Quiet beaches with soft Gulf water

  • Unique banyan and palm trees for shaded portraits

  • Beautiful golden hour light along the shoreline

  • Easy access to locations like Gasparilla Island State Park, Sarasota, and Punta Gorda

For Lauren and Griffin, this meant we could explore a little and keep things spontaneous. At one point they kicked off their shoes and walked straight into the water, laughing as the waves rolled in around them. It was all organic and natural, which I’ve found is what couples are craving for their engagement sessions.

Ending the Night with a Celebration

As the sun dropped lower, the sky softened into that dreamy coastal glow that Florida is known for. Griffin dipped Lauren in the surf for a kiss while the tide foamed around their feet. It was one of those moments that felt both romantic and completely natural.

To wrap up the evening, they popped a bottle of champagne along the rocks and toasted to this exciting season of life. Champagne spray, laughter, and a few celebratory clinks made for the perfect ending.

Lauren and Griffin will be getting married next January at the Alderman House, and I can already tell these two are going to throw a helluva party! Here’s a recent wedding I photographed at this venue, it’s one of my favorites!

If you are dreaming of a relaxed coastal engagement session, Boca Grande Island is definitely a location to keep on your list!
